Since the modest beginning of the department in 1973, it has undergone a steady path of transformation over the years becoming an undisputable partner in the state healthcare delivery system of Kerala. Today, the department caters the general public for their day-to-day healthcare needs through its Dispensaries, Ayush NHM PHCs and Hospitals, reaching beyond 95% of Kerala’s Local Bodies.
By establishing RAECH (Rapid Action Epidemic Control Cell –Homoeopathy)in 2004, Kerala became the first State in India to set up a mechanism to unify and standardise the epidemic control activities in the field of homoeopathy.
The first of its kind in India, SEETHALAYAM–the gender based programme in homoeopathy is currently one of the most popular as well as successful special projects of the department. Clickhere for more information on various on-going special projects of the department.
JANANI fertility care project has widely acclaimed popularity due to its remarkable success in managing infertility, was even mentioned in the Economic Survey 2018-19 as an example to be replicated by other states.
KASH(Kerala Accreditation Standards for Healthcare-AYUSH):As a handholding exercise in the success journey towards national & international benchmarks of excellence, Government of Kerala framed the Kerala Accreditation Standards for Healthcare (AYUSH) in 2014. Consequent to the tireless efforts of the State Quality Assurance Wing of the Department, 3 dispensaries have achieved KASH- Accreditationso far and many institutions are at the verge of being accredited.
Establishment of a state-of-the art Homoeopathic Cancer Care Centre at Wandoor, MalapuramDistrict ,Health Information Management Portal AHIMS, Floating Dispensary, Tribal Mobile Medical Unit etc.are considered as major achievements of the department.
